Chris, Jamie and Tim… enjoy your comments. I raced that race you guys refer to above in the Open Pro class ( 440 Maico) . I, unlike Magoo, tried to double the triple, over jumped ( could have made it a triple for sure! ) and ended up in Madera Community Hosp with 2 broken wrists. End of Pro Career. Off to Cal Poly and college… Magoo was the best. Sad to say I never raced him head to head. He was always in a different class those days ( 125,250, etc). Hell, I never would have saw him anyway! I was so bummed to hear about 1. His paralysis in the 80′s 2. Finally his passing. Brad Lackey really stepped up… Major props to him.
RIP Danny!
I raced Lake Madera every chance I could…amazing track, it was the highlight of the Golden State Series. I remember Nagoo taking that first turn like that then he would hit that gigantic triple a sail it all, loved Magoo and still do!!!
My fondest memory is of Magoo, back in I think 1981, taking the first turn at Lake Madera wide-open! He never let off the gas! What made it more remarkable was that it was a slight off-camber turn to the left with no berm. During the first attempt, he slid out. The second time he started wide right and dove in, turned that sucker sideways full-throttle all the way through the turn. Amazing.
Hey, Chris Neal, did you race minibikes back in the early and mid eighties in he central valley?
Classic Magoo,on the Maico at saddleback, this is the time when Jim Moore father of 94 125 World GP champion Bobby Moore was the main Sponsor of Magoo and Jim was the founder of PRO-TRAC trailers if you were cool in the 80s everyone had a Pro-Trac.
