danny had the most talent of any rider Ive seen the man was a pleasure to watch . In high school we would argue how great he would be and how far he would push the limits. Magoo was the best and he changed the seen of motocross he will be missed
I remember that day too! If I remember correct, didn’t Danny jump some doubles a couple corners after this and land on the right side of the hill and ride it down?!?! I also remember thinking I was going fast in my first “non-novice” practice at E st. Danny passed me like I was stuck in 1st! He even flew by me with his van and trailer coming back on Hwy 65!
Danny: You were the fastest rider I have ever seen. I have been riding and racing since I was 15 years old. I remember you flying by me one day out at Indian Dunes on the Shadow Glen track. You went by me and you were gone………….. I was on an open class bike and you were on a 125. I continued to watch you grow up and get faster and faster and faster. I have see Decoster,Robert,Lackey,Pomeroy, Smith, all of them including all the new guys and you my friend was the fastest EVER!!!!!!! A lot of people have asked me who I thought was the fastest MX rider I have ever seen and I say Danny Chandler. A lot of them look at me funny and say what? But those are only the ones that never saw you ride.

Magoo was the only one that went wide open down Banzai, everybody else myself included would let off a little and then get back on throttle and also the middle was the worst, Chandler used to come around the top of the hill on his maico and roost everybody on the snowfence and then just start upshifting WFO straight down the middle and then lean up on the bars and fly all the way down.. He was one of a kind..
I was there that day and still remember Danny dropping off of Banzai Hill every lap like a 90 meter ski jumper stretched out over the front of the bars landing almost to the flats. He was WFO that day. The way I remember it Hannah and Tripes battled for second both motos whille Danny smoked every one until the Maico couldnt take the abuse and broke both motos. (at least thats how I remember it). That and everyone talking about The Magoo double that was never supposed to be a double. Ive been a fan since that day.
Some Pro’s said they looked at Down hills as just a straight-A-way,5th gear pinned!! Hear is the fucking proof!!!!!!!!!!!! All rock, no loamy dirt here!! BALLS OUT !
That’s me with the bushy long hair near the guy with the blue shirt and chrome classes!

I do remember this day, September 1979. It’s the day I met Danny Chandler. Without a doubt, the fastest guy I have ever seen on a Maico. Thanks Magoo.
