Not a single racer today would even consider continuing a moto with bars like that!. A different kind of racer a better kind of person the one and only Danny Chandler!
I love this photo. I remember seeing this in MXA as a young kid and it helped reinforce the fact that determination can overcome just about any obtacle. It definitely left an impression on me.
Besides determination air cooled rc500 2-stroke and a 45 min moto had to be a real man in these days no punk ass kids that are overpaid for sx only contracts of today.
This image has been crux while I was heading home with my economy car,400 miles to drive from Milano to Roma, only with my handbrake to stop the car!My wallet was empty and no chance to fix it till home…….
It was like”Remember Danny and his Cr500 broken handlebar;if he did it so I can do it…”
This pic saved my ass!
Ciao Danny + Noah!!
I was there the day the picture was taken. Some how managed a pit/track pass and I had some old movies I took of him riding like this. Of course he was still faster than most even with his LITTLE handlebar problem.
At the Kansas City SX in 1980 or 81, Danny had to change a flat tire, and he borrowed some tire tools from me. At the end of the night, I had completely forgotten about the tools, had loaded up and was on my way out when I heard Danny yelling at me as he ran after my van- “Hey, I’ve got your tools!” That’s the kind of guy Danny Chandler is – and I’ll always look up to him! When moto-heroes like Darrell Schultz and Brad Lackey can find time to help Danny, how can anyone not contribute! Maybe I can’t afford David Bailey’s MX des Nations jacket on ebay, but I can still help out! And so can you! Jim Roble

because of this pic,i too ride always with bent bars. but not that bent. magoo is the man.
This pic is sick enough anywhere, but it’s at Southwick and he almost qualified like this. Darrell Shultz.

Things and riders were a lot different back then.
One off my favorite memories of Magoo that burnt a lasting impression on me as a rider, then and now. Always ride heart no matter what!
coolest fucking photo i have ever seen, you was mental. anyone who races needs to see this
