I believe it was Hangtown 80-81? it was real muddy that day or Sears point Trans-Am 80-81 and of course magoo was balls out faster than everyone but sometimes a few crashes would slow him down. This crash would have only resulted in a scratch and a few seconds to pick it back up and rocket again. RIP Danny Magoo Chandler
Its was at Hangtown 1979 in practice. He was trying to jump the 20 ft level mud hole. He won the first moto by a half a lap lead over Bob Hannah and crash hard in the second moto. He was the best motocycle racer period.
i was at hangtown that year. i remember seeing one of his crashes, but don`t know if it was this one. iknow he was amazing to watch. Not smooth, but wild. WFO,do or die attitude. I`ve got a great picture of Hannah from that race.
It appears that you have placed a lot of effort into your article and I require more of these on the net these days. I sincerely got a kick out of your post. I don’t really have much to say in response, I only wanted to comment to reply wonderful work.
just saw magoo in town this week and thought about all of those good ol days, hangin out, riding motorcycles, bicycles or what ever was around that had wheels. I doubt if there will ever be another rider like magoo, just being at the track in those days when he rode, the fans just went crazy, the louder the fans got the faster he went and the farther he would jump. I believe this picture is from hangtown. I am going to try to up load a couple of my pictures from the support class at sears point in 78 or 79, look at the fans cheering him on, right at the top of this hill is were all of the factory mechanics had there area and they all just shook there heads and smiled every lap when magoo came around. magoo is a true motocross ledgend. well I canot figure out how to put these images in with my reply I scaned them into jpeg format if anybody knows how please e mail me at daverearick@sbcglobal.net
This crash was Hangtown, I witnessed the crash, I used to watch Magoo at Argyle in Dixon he was the best and a local hero, every kid in town new who Magoo was and had a Magoo sticker on there number plate. We will miss him.

Looks like an injury crash to me! That Maico is the hammer and DC is the nail!(Or tent peg if youlike)
I think that was at Sears Point, looks like a 79 Maico.
Naw, I think he rode that out. He is waving to a fan.
