ForumOver the years we have heard so many classic Magoo stories and tall tales that we figured it was time to start collecting them all in one place. The forum page here at dannymagoo.com is meant to do just that. Feel free to post your own old school pictures and stories of Magoo, old school moto in general, or anything else that can somehow be seen as roughly related. As with all things Magoo, anything goes, really. 263 comments to Forum |

The end of an era. The greats of the greatest moments in motocross leave us one at a time. Thank you Magoo for being the fastest motocross racer in history. It was our pleasure to view your abilities. Rest in Peace.
Godspeed Danny Maggo Chandler. You were the real deal, and a force for sure in motocross. Fans that ever saw you race remember it to this day.
You will be a legend, and admired and loved for all you accomplished. Thank you for all you did for our sport, we will never forget you. RIP forever
How sad and what a loss. I was a NorCal slow as hell amateur racing D-36 and CMC in the mid to late 70′s. The track in Watsonville was always my favorite. The Grossi’s would frequently race there (if they weren’t racing a nat) Billy Grossi was a pretty wild rider back in the day. I remember him talking about a crazy kid from up north who was of course Magoo.
(a pot calling the kettle black analogy)
I vividly remember being amazed as I watched Magoo for the first time after I raced my first moto and my thought was that he was riding a different track. His speed had him in the air and out of control where the others were not. A true lightening rod on the bike.
As a continued to follow his career I was always pleased for the success that he experienced but also more struck by the fact that he genuinely loved what he was doing and seemingly always had that smile on his face.
Godspeed Danny. St. Peter has the hook up on a Magnum 440 prepped by Wheelsmith with some Fox dual-airs out back. See him.
The most amazing motocross rider has joined the paradise of heroes mx.We’re the same age and you have always dream.
I am very sad. I will not forget.
RIP colleague ……….

I first saw Magoo at the Watsonville MX just outside Santa Cruz Ca. in 1975 ? He was on a yz125 I believe and was the fastest I ever saw on a motocross bike. And I grew up with and rode with Riders like Billy Grossi, Bobby Grossi,Charles Holcomb,Jeff Watts… Etc…. But no one was as fast and ferrless as Danny C. I saw him at a race when the first moto he smoked the entire class so bad he was the only rider on the lead lap ! moto two when the rubber band starting gate snapped he was the only one left on the line, Because he pinned it wide open and blew the yz up on the starting line. He was disappointed but still watched the entire race. He was cool as hell every time I saw him at hang town or speedway in auburn, even at the gas station in Colfax about a year ago, He also was the first ever to take his hand off the bars and wave to the fans while passing over a jump. He was special. Wade, Grass Vally Ca.
In my workshop hangs a black and white pic. of a guy on a CR500 coming out of Gravity Cavity with the bike pancaked and one arm over his head. It was taken by a local newspaper reporter, and I still cherish it to this day. I was at Unadilla that day when you rode backwards. Thanks for the memories Magoo, you will never be forgotten. My heart is very heavy like i lost a friend, though I never new you, Godspeed Magoo.
Godspeed Danny! You were a hero to many! May your family find God’s grace and comfort in this time of mourning.
Danny you will always be the real deal,Such a rare talent from a small town that can always use a hero, your passing brought back a rush of memories and emotions,They were truly the great times. god speed my brother, The Georgetown Boys.
” RIDE IN PEACE ” Hope your completely slidewayz through that loamy first turn and stay wide open like you always did best. Although I did not get to see Danny race I was a huge fan for what he did for the sport. I was very close friends with the late Marty Moates. I was Marty’s mechanic for supermoto. This is how I was lucky enough to meet and hang out with Danny. What a genuine real guy!!! Just like Marty. I still use my absolute favorite quote from him and live by it. “I NEED ALOT OF ROOM I LIKE TO GO FAST”. FAIR WELL TO A FALLEN HERO…YOU WILL BE MISSED
wishing you the best danny.
you were always a true gentleman and a great competitor.
R.I.P. buddy
Rest in Peace Danny – I will always have great memories of our times racing and riding together.
My heart is broken, and my hero is gone
He was my dear friend and this seams oh so wrong
All his friends are reflecting that it’s just been to long
Now all our hearts are broken and our hero is gone
When the stories are told and the memories grow old
He’ll always be young with a heart of gold
The legends will be that his courage was bold
The love that is Danny will never grow cold
He never would say that the world loved him so
He lived for the moment and never let go
The love for his family he rarely would show
But when he spoke of his girl his smile would grow
My friend is now gone as our lifes go on
His legend will grow as we sing this song
The stories will be told of a legend that’s gone
A love for this giant can never be wrong
Thanks for the friendship Dan you gave me so many good memories
Only saw Danny race a few times, but when I did it was truly memorable. A sad day today, but the race memories and smile will live forever. Prayers for you and family.

There will never be a Danny “Magoo” Chandler, GOd Bless your family and our prayers are with you…Everytime I saw him race he was definitely the most hard charging, never quit rider I ever seen race…
Wished I had made more effort to visit you Over the years of knowing you. You were one of a kind and a good man. (RIP) My memories will never fade. One memory I have is when you had your daughter (4yrs old at the time) sing a few songs for me and your father at your house in Foresthill. you were so proud of her. we shared some good laughs that day. or how bout the time when you raced locally and would show up at the races and borrow my boots and my brothers helmet and get to the line just in time for the gate to drop and smoke everyone! You were a Genious Danny- heres why. Scientist and engineers can design and build rockets and fast machines but not one of them in the history of all mankind actually knew how to master them the way you did! You had heart and soul like no other person and I thank you for showing it to the world!!! My condolences to family and close friends
From an old friend and caretaker from colfax R.I.P Magoo the world will miss you

Always a treat to see you ride. We would watch and shake our heads in disbelief at what we just saw – if it was possible and sometimes impossible to do on dirt bike – you did it!!
You will be missed our good friend – RIP
Rob
Godspeed Danny…You’ll be missed. Thanks to Brad and Lori for your personal and special dedication to Magoo.
R.I.P. Danny

Danny, I watched you race in Lakewood, CO in 1983 and it was magical to watch you and Broc go at it for two motos. I have met many great men, and you are one of them. The time we spoke in Mammoth, CA will always be remembered. Go with God’s speed Danny, God’s speed.
Good bye Danny, you will never be forgotten.
R.I.P. Danny….I am paralyzed as well but I will always remember wearing my supporter Magoo shirt as a kid riding at carnegie motorcycle park.
To the Chandler Family and Friends,
I grew up watching and admiring Magoo’s talent from Dixon to Marysville to Hangtown to Carlsbad to Europe. He’s the reason I never did race; my Combat Wombat looked like a $500.00 claimer in the mud at Bay Meadows against John Henry in his prime. I would hope that Dannys legacy can live on through a foundation set up in his name; to help talented privateers that need a chance in this sport that don’t have family money or factory connected support. Magoo would have liked to help the “little guy” get a chance to show what he’s made of. He will be greatly missed.
